Charlie Constantinou designs shapeshifting clothes. Growing up Cypriot, surrounded by a mixture of mythology and modern storytelling, he developed a fascination with alien worlds. Now he makes garments for them. His adaptable designs are as at home in the city as they would be on mars, and his references are equally varied. He looks to the past for objects which feel futuristic and to nature for ways to manipulate the man made. In these contradictions Constantinou’s work comes to life; You don’t have to look any further than his signature quilted nylon to understand how well he can make the synthetic look organic.
