Roxanne Tataei’s musical practice is centred around the voice. Her work often enters the surreal but still addresses very real cultural issues, for example, her exploration of the harmful impact of the “Strong Black Woman” trope in her latest work developed during her Southbank Centre Studio residency. Tataei explores the boundaries of her voice, taking the most familiar instrument of them all and uncovering entirely new soundscapes but her practice doesn’t stop there. She also writes, composes, directs and more with a repertoire that spans opera to film scores.
